Owls dress - Vogue 8649

I needed 4 garments for the TNT Tee contest so this is probably the last one of this series. And my favorite. I was not really planning on making another dress but I liked the butterflies one so much and I felt so well in it that I thought that maybe I do want to try another dress. I still have tons of this fabric so that was not an issue. I am so glad I did the dress because I simply love it. I feel so girly in it. I borrowed the ruffles idea from the 2 dresses I sewed for little girls in the same fabric. I added a small ruffle to the neck line as well and I stabilized the seam on the inside. I initially added ruffles to the sleeves as well but was looking awkward so I cut them in the end.
I think I will let my pictures show you how much I love being in this dress.

I am also very proud of the inside of the dress:
This dress is so fun to wear.

Pink tee - Vogue 8649

pink tee keyhole
The journey of the Vogue 8649 pattern continues with a failure. I was very exited when I started the pink tee. I love pink and when I managed to do the keyholes in the back so nice I was sure this was a home run... Being the 3rd tee on this pattern I didn't do any attempt to try it while sewing. Not sure if that would have helped. When the tee was ready it seemed OK and I am happy I was able to take some pictures before everything fell apart. After wearing it for half an our it already started to feel lose and after wearing it for half a day around the house now it feels like is 3 numbers to big. It just stretched and stretched and never bounced back. Damn you cheap fabric. I for sure will be more selective when buying knits after this. I really wanted to love this tee but after all this all under bust seam is a mess and the front crossing is off .... I don't think it is worth the effort to try and fix it. So if you want to do this pattern please try a high quality knit that bounce back nicely. Is really important for getting a nice drape on the bust and a firm seam under the bust.

Butterflies dress - Vogue 8649

The flower power top went together so well that I had to do another one. I have this butterfly fabric in my stash for quite some time waiting to be a dress. I thought a dress will be the best way to put the fabric borders into value and I was right. It looks great as a dress. I made no changes to the pattern other then add some length and bend the grain line just a little to get the prints matching that I wanted for sleeves.
I already wore it  and is quite comfortable and easy.

I am also very proud of the print matching for the back seam. Is one of my best so far.

Flower Power Tee - Vogue 8649

vogue 8649

I been very busy lately so I only sew curtains for my sons room in the past 2 weeks. I really needed so easy project  to get started again. PR is having a TNT Tee contest this month so that helped me decide what to do next.  I have quite a few top patterns that I want to try. I stopped a vogue 8649. It looked easy enough to do and yet looked a least a little sophisticated.  I liked the kimono sleeves that I thought will not give me trouble fitting. I also thought that playing with the gathering I can make it fit me better.
I traced he pattern size 10 cup B yesterday and then I started reading previous reviews and got a little scared. by people saying that this pattern runs loose. I was ready to start from size 8 cup A after reading reviews but since I already had the other one copied I thought I should do that first. If it was to big I could give it to my mother or something. I fit me perfectly almost instant. I did no have to change a thing at the bust or at the gatherings. I traced view A with short sleeves but they were a lo longer then he pictures shows. I shorted them for 1 1/2 inch and they still are to long. Next time I will shorten them even more. But for now I was to excited to have it all  ready to wear in almost 2 hours. This really was an immediate gratification project. And I love it.
I really want to thank everyone who reviewed this on PR before. It helped me a lot. I think that using a stable bias tape really helped to keep it all together and not stretch out even if the fabric was very stretchy.  For me the crossover front stay really well in place and does not show something it shouldn't.

I even took it out to the park this evening to play with my son.

And few more pictures inside. The light is not the best. It is night already.

And taking to tee to the beach.

Owl dresses for little ladies ( Burda 06/2010 - 145 )

burda 06 2010 145

So many times I find little dresses so amazing. They seem so much better in this small sizes. One of the very small downsides to having a boy is not needing to make this dresses. So when the first opportunity presented I was so happy mo make them. Two of our friends girls just turned 3 and 2 . So that was the perfect opportunity to make 2 dresses. I used the same pattern from BurdaStyle Magazine 06/2010 pattern 145 and sleeve option from 146. the pattern sizing starts from 110 so for the smaller version I skipped the seam allowances to make it smaller. I also played a little with the skirts length and for the bigger version added some contrast band to the hem and sleeve. The owl fabric is cotton knit - most comfortable for children.

I was very pleased with the result and I hope the little ladies will enjoy it.
