Ahoy - new boy PJs - Burda 12/2010 #135

This Friday Andrei had a pajama party at kindergarten and he had to choose his favorite PJs. His choice was the airplane one that I sewed him for Christmas a while ago - blog link here. It was a little to short for him but fortunately it was large enough so I added some extra length to both sleeves and legs and it was as good as new. He was happy to have it ready in time for the party.
And since he made me happy with his choice for the party I decided it is time to sew him a new one. So one again I pulled the Burda pattern and got it just a bit bier this time.Pattern can also be donloaded from Burda Style Magazine 12/2010 - design 135 - size 104.

I have been looking for the perfect fabric for it for a while and I think I got it with this lovely pirate print. He love it. LOVED IT!  And I had enough fabric left to make him a pillow case as well.

All I did different was to replace button with Velcro so he can close it himself.
Ahoy!

Adorable Turtles 2 - top & pants - Ottobre 6/2010 #15

Ottobre 6/2010 #15
I had a blouse started as well when I did the adorable turtles embroidery set - here - that I only got to finish this days.I had troubles with the neck band - stupid fabric not stretchy enough...   In the end I settled for this contrast red and did 2 pairs of pants as well to match it.
The pattern is from Ottobre magazine and I used it before for the pumkin blouse.
The applique design was offered for free some time but Adorable Applique site and is still available to buy now here. This time I tried some new color scheme and I am very happy with the result. Since I didn't trust the knit to hold such an applique being sewed into it I did it on a different fabric then cut it off carefully and just did some minimum stitching to hold it.
I didn't look that great this time but the boy seems happy with it and it goes nice with the turtle home shoes I did for him before.

My Little Pumpkin - Ottobre 6/2010 #15

My son had some special activities for Halloween at his day-care and we were required to dress them in black/green pants and orange T-shirt. Not a hard requirement at all but after spending some time shopping nothing seemed right to me.  All the orange tops I could find were covered in a lot of writings or pictures I just didn't like. So at the last moment I decided I should just do it myself. It sure goes with my determination to make costumes for him.
I had bought some Ottobre issues for kids some time ago but I never got to sew anything from them. So this was my 1st Ottobre and I just love it. LOVE IT! The raglan sleeve had such a beautiful curvy shape and the fit was perfect. I think it really looks better then most of the store bought he has.
I only had 2 orange fabrics in the house : a corduroy with spandex and a thin micro-fleece.The micro-fleece was very soft and I think he loves wearing it. For the sleeves I cut into an old black T-shirt of mine that I new it had good fabric. I skipped the cuffs since I thought the orange fabric will be to thick if putted on 2 layers.
I traced and cut size 92 and it all come together rather fast. It is the 1st time for me when the neck binding actually fits in well. So one more thing to be happy about.
The Jack-o-Lantern face applique is a free design that can be downloaded here.
The pattern is more clear on the hanger:
....but a lot more cute on my boy even if I can't get him to stay still for 2 straight seconds :
