Waiting for round 3 results seemed a bit longer then others. The competition got a lot more serious. I didn't got this far last year and I really wanted to make it to the final. I put my heart into the round 3 coat but it was simple looking, no closure, no pockets. I have spent all my time and energy into different aspects - fabric weight, shades, textures and the most important - proper drape... so maybe that was not enough... I had a really nice public reaction to the coat though so I was hopeful... I didn't want to be that crazy lady hitting refresh every 2 minutes so I sent kids out with my husband and start tracing 2 new patterns from Ottobre 4/2017 for the kids. I was already missing sewing or them and with a task like that I was only refreshing the page every 20 minutes....
I picked design 13 - blue bird denim dress for Eva - and design 29 - compas raglan t-shirt - for Andrei:
I wanted something that I could use next spring as well and I traced 98 for Eva and 116 for Andrei. I used a plaid printed jersey that has a few print defects in the plaid - not sure if they were actual defects or were intentional - I didn't noticed them when I bought the fabric and I hated that at home. It is a cute fabric though so I thought it would be a good choice for a test run.
I had no plan on actually finishing any of the items but I did finished both that night and no results posted yet.
Eva's dress come out cute but the way I cut Andrei's print was not the most inspired - I only made it a 2 blocks front instead of 3 and cut the pockets from the same piece so I will avoid some seams and bulk. I will do a better job blocking this one next time....
Both items are a bit simplified as well. I skipped cuffs on both. I also skipped the center closing on Eva's dress and facings as I felt they were not needed in a fabric this stretchy...
The list came out just as I hit a final refresh before shutting down the light to put the kids to sleep. I was really happy to see GeoP winning the round. It was great jacket and I am a fan of her work for a long time but then the rest of the list was there and my name was not on it nor were a few other of my favorite entries. I thought that I probably missed some important aspects for the round and went on singing songs to the kids and telling stories. It was had to fight back some tears gathering in the back of my eyes. But it was dark and hard to cry while you try to come up with new rimes to kids happy songs... By the time they were finally asleep I was somehow OK with being out and I was already picturing a wool coat I really want to make...As I was opening my laptop my husband asked me if I know anything about the contest results. I lied and said they didn't post them yet - I was not ready to tell him I failed... I entered to congratulate Geo and after I posted my comment I glance at the list and see AlpineQueen name there... I was quite sure she was not on the list... but I only read it quickly so maybe I missed it... still I read the list again... and again... and a again... my name was on the list. A lot of names were changed for sure... It seams that the initial post was a fingers slip and the second list was the good one. I still try to wrap my head about being in the final... I have no idea what I will make and I am sure at least some of the contestants are already cutting patterns and fabric... I am really busy at work the first few days so hopefully by the time I can sew I will have a plan as well...
And now pictures with kids new outfits on Sunday right before the last challenge was announced ( outfit for a class reunion ... ):
I haven't bought any fabric since Koos coat and with this and the items for the wedding my sewing debt is down to 179... ( if you can put down and 179 in the same sentence ha ha ... )
Too cute!

DeleteCongratulations getting into the last round! I'm glad I'm not the only one who presses refresh a million times when checking out the contests! :D Good luck for your high school reunion impress look! I've had my eye on that sweatshirt for my boys--the inseam pocket is a cool touch. Both these look like a good quick distraction while you were waiting.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Elizabeth! My goal was to get into the final but now that I am here I feel a bit lost! I guess I didn't actually expected to be here! I hope to put in a good show though!
